Local Community of kastellos


Mountainous village situated in the foothills of the White Mountains, on top of a hill at an altitude of 252 m The name came from the steep location where it is built. The Kastelos old was in a lower position on the same hill, the location of the settlement Thorns (too old village which is still inhabited), where the residents had to be transferred in 1800 to escape the Turks. Near the village became a fierce battle in 1835 between the residents and the Turks, which killed 22 Turkish and one Greek only, which was the reason to abandon the Turkish raids in the area. The inhabitants of the village, and excelled during the German occupation (1940-1945), the heroic resistance struggle.
